Must-Have Summer Books For Fashionistas
This summer is a good time to catch up on some summer reading as you're hanging out on the beach and working on your tan and I've got some hot picks that you'll definitely want to order from Amazon or buy at your local bookstore. There's no doubt that as a writer, I read a lot of books. I've actually lost count of how many books I've read in my lifetime. So as a fashion lover, I'm guilty of spending a lot of time reading Chicklit novels on fashion and relationships, more so than actually writing about it. I've read some good books on fashion and some that were sub par. So without further adieu, here are my three personal picks of must-have books for fashionistas.
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
I like to think that I have a great sense of humor, so I can enjoy a funny read. Confessions of a Shopaholic had me laughing from beginning-to-end because the main character Rebecca is so likable (and relatable). I thought the book took a hilarious and light-hearted view on how a fashionista's love for designer labels can get her into some serious debt. It's perfect for light reading at the beach or for airport reading before or during a flight.
Lipstick Jungle by Candice Bushnell
Candice Bushnell penned Lipstick Jungle after the success of Sex and the City. Although the HBO adaptation of Lipstick Jungle starring Brooke Shields was cancelled after two seasons, the book has lasting power and delves into the lives of three women who are known to be part of "New York's 50 Most Powerful Women," according to The New York Post. There's plenty of fashion garb along with the exciting twists and turns of sex and scandal, which makes it an entertaining page-turner.
Coco Chanel: The Legend And The Life By Justine Picardie
The last book I recommend as a must-have for all fashionistas is a biography on one of the most powerful and influential women in fashion. Coco Chanel: The Legend And The Life is a well-written biography of a woman who grew up in poverty during WW1 and transformed the 20th century fashion industry. There are several biographies written about Coco Chanel, but this book provides more facts instead of dramatizing the events which occurred in her life. It also includes a lot of pictures which act as a timeline for the different stages of the late fashion icon's life.
So there you have it - my three must-have books for fashionistas. Confessions of a Shopaholic will make you laugh out loud, while Lipstick Jungle will keep you entertained. Most importantly, Coco Chanel: The Legend And The Life will inspire you to become a more fabulous fashionista. So go out there, grab a latte, and read my book recommendations during the summer.
Are there any great books for fashionistas that you've read and want to recommend? Don't be shy, tell us which authors and books you enjoy reading on the beach. I'm sure the book worms out there will appreciate it!
